Meet our Artists in Residence
Liz Morrison & Charlotte Easterling
Indigenous Generations
Featuring work by mother and daughter Oglala Lakota artists. The work approaches these concepts from the perspectives of two different generations and art practices, with prints of acrylic paintings by Liz Morrison and prints made from digital illustrations by Charlotte Easterling.
Liz Morrison is an enrolled member of the Oglala Sioux Tribe and is also Anishinaabe (Ojibwe) from her paternal grandfather's branch of the family tree. Art is her passion, whether viewing the work of other artists or creating her own pieces. Liz is self taught in several art media and techniques and quite often combines them. She is fascinated with the beauty of peacocks, colorful fabric, and flamboyantly attired humans. Her art is influenced by her interests and her heritage so her style often eludes categorization. Charlotte Easterling is an artist, illustrator, and graphic designer. She’s an enrolled member of the Oglala Sioux Tribe. Charlotte grew up in Rapid City, South Dakota, next to the Black Hills (Paha Sapa). The Hills were a constant presence throughout Charlotte’s childhood, and memories of stargazing, exploring, and encountering wildlife inform her work.
Charlotte studied at Otis College of Art and Design in Los Angeles and at the University of Texas – Austin. Her work is in permanent collections at Nicolet College and the City of Madison. Website: https://charlotteeasterling.com/work
